Go to All Posts and select your Post to Edit. On the right sidebar navigate to tags. Your tags will be listed in order first will be last or bottom of the Tags list. Click the small x in a blue circle to remove the tag and click Update to save.

How to assign a Category to the Post.

Open the selected post and on the right hand sidebar, scroll down to categories and click the desired category. Update your post.

Alternatively you can add a category to a post by going to All Posts on the left hand sidebar. Hover over the title. In the Quick Link Options, click Quick Edit

In quick edit select your category. Again there are more choices. You can add more tags (remember the comma after the tag) or make this post sticky(this means make them appear above the other posts) or you can change the status of the post(not category) to draft or Pending Review.

To delete a category, go to Posts > Categories and select the category to Delete – the post within the category will be added to your default wordpress category. You can also quick edit or rename you category.

WordPress and will automatically move the posts in to the default category configured in the Settings >> Writing.

This page will allow you to create categories. First of all fill in the category Name, its slug, this will be used in the category URL, choose whether its a Parent or child category(adding a parent from the drop downs, makes it a child) add the Category Description, then click Add New Category.
To describe wordpress categories are similar to books. A book has an index of many sections and many individual pages within these sections. Categories can help you organize your web site and help your users find the information they want.

A tag is specific and addresses items you discuss in a blog post. Down the line broad to specific or categories own to tags.

Embed an image gallery in a post

How to Embed an image gallery in a WordPress Post

First step is to get images for the gallery. Once you have that done, open a new post name it service gallery or similar. Once you have this complete click add media above the editor.

At this stage click create gallery.

Select your images notice the tick box on the image after you select it. Hover over and a minus icon will allow you to take it out of the gallery. Also notice the bottom bar has 4 images selected.  Click Create a New Gallery bottom right.


 

The next screen is you final chance to edit your Gallery. Your choices are to Attachment Page, Media File or None. Below this you can select the number of Columns (4 columns for 4 images on one row) or (2 columns for 4 images on two rows). Select your image sizes either thumbnail, Medium, Full or Full Size.

Explore the Quick Edit Options built into WordPress Pages as standard.

WordPress comes with a lot of options and exploring them can be fun.

On the pages screen you see all pages on your website, plus if you hover over the title, the quick links to edit pages from you dashboard. Obviously you can click the title and go into the editor screen. Sometimes you don’t have to go that deep, for example if you have just noticed a recent popular search term and would like to rank higher for this term. Simply click quick edit your title, slug, date published, add a password and status(whether you page is in a Published state, Draft state or Pending Review) or make it as a child page of another page Main Page (no parent)

With some themes (Premium WordPress themes), you can change your page layout from the quick edit options, leave at default for a Sidebar, which can be changed and re-arranged by going to Appearance >> Widgets.

Importing Content From Another Website

In this tutorial i will show how to Import Content From Another WordPress Website.

Select your content to import. Basically to import content into your wordpress website, you need a .xml file. Usually, if not always generated by another wordpress website.

So to start i will show you how to generate that file.

Under Tools on your other site, find export, you can export all content or choose to export one post type (posts, pages, media) at a time.

On you other wordpress website/test site login again go to tools and this time choose import. Down towards the bottom of your screen is WordPress >> Run Importer click this to be brought to an upload screen. Click browse and navigate to your downloaded .xml file from the other website. Click Upload file and import.

The upload is a process of selecting

1. Assign Authors or select the default author
2. Download and import file attachments images

Click Submit

Your New WordPress Website is now populated with older content. Not ideal but a great start. Edit the content as you see fit.

Format Text in a Post

How to Format text with post formatting icons included in the WordPress visual post editor screen.

  • The first row contains your standard bold or italize text. To apply bold to your text, select the text you would like change and click the bold button or CMD and B(shortcode).
  • The quotation mark icon has the block quote feature. This will  also add an indent and italic style to your selected text.
  • Next we have the Horizontal Line which basically adds a horizontal line the with of an element above or below your text. Depending on where you place your cursor.
  • The next two icons are for bullet and number listings with drop-down elements. To add a list to a post, just select the text, then click that icon. The default is bulleted options are List, circle, disc or square.
  • Alignment options are next. You can choose to align left, center or align right.
  • The next icon is the insert Link. change any highlighted text to a link.
  • Next to this the remove link button, removes any linked text when highlighted and clicked.

Click the Show/hide the kitchen sink, reveals another line of formatting. You can add header sizes, heading styles to your text, underline text or set a full alignment.

Change the color of you text, selected it, then use this icon to select the colour.

  • The table icon adds a table of your selected options. e.g. 4 row by 4 columns.
  • The full screen option does exactly that, changes to Full screen
  • Undo the most recent changes Next
  • After that is Redo, which Undos the last action

There are many other options depending on your theme functions but these are the basic’s.

If you ever get stuck using your formatting icons, you can simply hover over the icon to see the command, experiment with the editor.
