Before you do anything go to setting and tab Permalinks. Change this from Default to Post name.

To include the category, you select “Custom Structure” and change the value to /%category%/%postname%/.

If you previously had ?p=<postid> as your permalink WordPress will take care of all the redirects for you. This is also true if you change from /%postname%/ to /%category%/%postname%/.

If you change from any other permalink structure save your changes or else changes won’t be saved.

On the next screen Search by business name and address.

If one of the results is not your business (and it should not) look to the bottom and None of these match Add your business click here.

Next screen is the main one

1. Add your Business Name

2. Add your business

3. Street Address(be as specific as you can)

4. Enter your City details or a local town (it does not matter to Americans everything is a city)

5.Select your County(Select you county from the drop down)

5. Main business phone

6. Choose the Business Category that best suits your business

7. Decide whether you deliver goods and services to customers at their location.

If Google are unable to locate your business They say that “We can’t find this address.”

If the address you entered is correct, set the map’s marker location to point to your business address.

Click Marker Location Drag the marker on top of your business. To zoom, use the +/- buttons at the bottom right. To move the map, simply click and drag the map.

Just Drag the marker to your Business Location. Your will be returned to the submit Business information page. Submit it fill out the next screens according to your information.

Then Keep an eye out for this postcard — it should arrive with your verification code in 1-2 weeks.

Your business will appear as unverified until you verify using the code sent to you (don’t delay — it’s only good for 30 days). Basiclly you have 30 days to fill out your google plus profile but best to do it straight away.


Within 2 weeks you should get your business postcard. Carefully open it to reveal 5 numbers /digits

With this information head over to google.com/local/verify and find your unverified business

Enter the details and verity. Congrats your done.

So, go over to plugins and Add New and search the wordpress repository for a plugin call default-featured-image when you find it install and activate it.

By now it is installed and active so go to Settings and media you may notice and new upload area under the title media settings. Asking you to set the default featured image. Upload an image and Save Changes. Move on to the next wordpress task.

Remember you can always over ride the default image by setting the featured image on a specific post.

As a carry on from our tutorial on adding text to a post or page. To brighten up your new wordpress post we are going to add a basic image. For this you will need to be in the wordpress text editor.

Adding a gallery of images is simple at this stage. Or you can Set a Featured Image from this panel.

Having written down what you want on your post. If you want the text to wrap around the image go to the start of your paragraph. Position your cursor there. Go up to Add Media and click. Upload your media/image, having done this your image will be inserted into position.

In the picture above you you will see the display after you click the image you have just uploaded. You have a few options here either to center align the image as highlighted above or to left and right align it or have no alignment at all.

 

Always save and preview your work to see check to see it meets your expectations. By either using the preview button just above the wordpress editor or by right clicking view post and open in new window. This way is best if you need to go back and change something.

To remove a plugin from Admin panel. Go to Plugins Installed and browse your installed plugins. If it is Active, De-Active the plugin and Delete.

Posts are the foundation of WordPress, it started out as a blogging platform and progressed to a full blown content management system.

First thing you need to know with WordPress is to create a posts. To begin, login to your site admin panel and go to Posts -> Add New.

On this page you will see the WordPress posts editor. The most important parts of this page are:

  • Post Title – enter the title of your post in this field. On your theme it will be shown above your content. Remember Keywords and Keep titles to about 3 words long.(SEO)
  • Post Content – you can use the WordPress WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor to add the actual content of your post. Note that it has two tabs – Visual (use the editor to format your text) and Text (add your HTML code directly). Don’t switch between them if you add URL’s. WordPress will sanitise it.

Once you enter the content of your first WordPress post, you need to Publish it. Publishing brings your post to your website.

To create new categories in WordPress, you need to hover over the Posts then click Catgories page.

On the left side of the page you will see a tab that allows you to create categories. Fill in the category name, its slug (This will be the category URLs) decide if you want to add the category as a parent or child category to another and add a description of the category. Finally Add New Category. For the purpose of this tutorial we will make a new category called WordPress Training.

Fill out your category details and click Add New Category.

Now we deal with how to assign posts to categories

After you have created the category structure, you can add posts to categories. There are two ways you can do this. The first one is to open a post and place a checkbox in the category you want to assign it to. This will assign the specific post to the category.

You can also add new categories here, under the categories check boxes. Click add new category, fill out the box that appears and click Add.

The second way is to bulk add posts to a category. To do this go to Posts them All Posts. Next, select the posts you want to add to a category individually, click on the Bulk Actions tab, select Edit and finally press the Apply button.

You have a few options you can adjust for your posts. One of them is the Categories section. Select the category you want to add those posts to and click on the Update button. You can also bulk add a tag that you want here.
